Your parents can call and talk to a counselor about how to get along better with you. If you need a place to stay, you can stay there for up to fifteen days.

:: New Connections ::
New Connections’ GED lab is a place for kids who want to get their GED but aren't going to a regular high school. A GED (General Equivalency Diploma) is an alternative to a high school diploma. It will get you into college and is accepted almost anywhere as a substitute for a high school diploma. New Connections has morning and afternoon classes Monday through Thursday. There’s a full time teacher, but its nothing like a regular school. You can work at your own pace and get as much or as little individual attention as you want. You can eat lunch and breakfast there, surf the Internet, and get ready to take the GED. If you want to get a job, staff can help you with that. Or if you’d like to get a job, but can’t figure out what kind of job you’d be good at, staff can help you with that, too.

There are also groups for Teen Moms, youth dealing with substance abuse, Basic Living Skills and "Rainbow Connections". Rainbow Connections is a support group for 16-21 year olds who have determined that they are gay, lesbian, bisexual or are questioning their sexual orientation. The weekly groups are confidential and will include guest speakers, discussion, education and activities. For more information about the group including meeting days, times, and directions please call Wayne or Anita at 340-3690.

If you’re 17 – 21 and you don’t have a place to live, you may qualify for one of New Connections Independent Living apartments. You’ll have your own place, but a staff person will be in the building all the time, in case you need some help with something. You have to get a job and and go to school. You’ll pay a small amount of rent, and staff will help you save and set up a small apartment.

If you want to know more about New Connections, call 340-3690. New Connections is on the East End, on Washington Street, about two and a half blocks from the Capitol.
